Our body consists of trillion of cells which are all surrounded by membranes. These membranes connect to each other and have numerous of functions. The most important functions include the transportation of nutrients into the cells, waste products out of the cells and being a barrier for protection. Already, you can see that the membrane system functions as an exchange pathway. Let’s take the membrane system involved in breathing as an example. We breath air in containing a high percentage of oxygen and we breath air out containing a high percentage of carbon dioxide. Throughout this process, the membranes of the cells use and transform all the useful components of the fresh air we breathe in.

Clearly, if something is not right on the cellular level of the body and the membrane system is weak, physical diseases occur. As a trained doctor in Western as well as Eastern Medicine Prof. Dr. Pang Ming knew very well the importance of a healthy membrane system for our holistic health and thus in the theory of the immune system in Zhineng (Wisdom) Qigong as well as in developing effective practices and methods to strengthen it. If the membrane system is strong, the body has an ability and chance to recover and regain vitality. If it is weak, one will continue to suffer from the disease or overall weakness.

The membrane system is very important for our self-healing abilities. This has to do with its automatic absorbing and releasing mechanisms as earlier discussed. Also in Zhineng Qigong, you have the theory of the exchange pathway between the body and the body’s Qi field which builds on the membrane system. Again, it has to do with absorbing and releasing – absorbing the necessary Qi which keeps our body healthy and provides useful energy, and releasing Qi which is of no use for the body anymore. Freely flowing Qi and blood are necessary in order for the body to be healthy. This happens with the help of the membrane system.

One approach to activate our self-healing abilities of the membrane system is to include pull and push movements in your practice. One example is the ”Hold Qi Up and Pour Qi Down” method (Peng Qi Guan Ding Fa). It is the foundation of Zhineng Qigong and practiced by millions of people worldwide. With this method you can pour Qi down, deep into the membrane layer, and also release used up Qi from deep within. The exchange of external and internal Qi through nourishing the body’s membrane contact system is enhanced and harmonized. This method is very effective to collect and gather Qi. While the quality and quantity of your bodily Qi improves, the pathways linking you to the universal Hunyuan Qi are opened. Thus, when practicing, you can experience wonderful benefits such as regeneration, recovery and improved vitality over time.

This practice, among others, is covered in our next Life Changer program ”Ancient Wisdom – Zhineng Qigong Level 1”. In this program we will share and practice fundamental, easy to learn, Zhineg Qigong methods which have a positive impact on your health from deep within. These very effective methods improve your health on a physical , mental and emotional level. With regular practice, you will find that you general quality of life improves. Holistic health and well-being comes from within, so let’s start there 🙂
